Guidance for lung ultrasound during COVID-19

The management of coronavirus across the globe has highlighted the importance of lung ultrasound in assessing patients and guiding management.

The Intensive Care Society and Society for Acute Medicine ultrasound working groups of have been working closely to develop resources and aids to help those managing COVID-19 patients. The following documents are guides which can be used and shared freely. As with all guidelines, they must be used in conjunction with local and national policies, and enhance but do not replace critical thinking.

This area will be updated frequently as new information and resources arrive.
National Service Evaluation of Lung and Heart Ultrasound in Patients with Suspected or Proven COVID Project

The Intensive Care Society and Society for Acute Medicine have been working together to develop a national service evaluation of POCUS in COVID. We know lung and heart ultrasound are invaluable in managing these patients, and would like to understand how and where it is being used, and for what reasons.

We have created a standard dataset, and would like as many scans as possible to be recorded on this. It takes approximately one minute to complete the core data for a lung ultrasound. We are creating a national database to allow sites to upload their data shortly, and further information and all supporting documents can be found below:

Participating sites will need to inform their local Caldicott Guardian (forms and details available via website).
