Ellie Pontin | Psychologist

Dr Ellie Pontin, Principal Clinical Psychologist  

Ellie has been a qualified Clinical Psychologist for 15 years and has been working in Critical Care for the past 5 years, in two large units in Liverpool, one of which is a Major Trauma Centre.  Working alongside AHP colleagues she provides collaborative and multidisciplinary care to patients and their families as they navigate their journey through critical care. Ellie is passionate about ensuring psychological needs are factored into the lived experience of a critical care admission and during rehabilitation, which is essential to reduce the psychological impact of critical illness and promote meaningful recovery. This includes ensuring non-pharmacological prevention and management of delirium. As well as supporting patients and their families, Ellie also provides support to critical care staff and coordinates a staff support pathway following difficult events at work. Ellie enjoys providing teaching and training to the critical care MDT and on two Post Graduate modules at the University of Liverpool, and Edge Hill University, and is an active member of the Cheshire and Mersey Critical Care Network AHP and Psychology Forum. Ellie is looking forward to promoting and sharing the work of Critical Care Psychology and contributing to the work of the ICS as a member of the AHP PAG.
