Appointment of Darren Fergus as new Lay Trustee

The Intensive Care Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Darren Fergus as new Lay Trustee member of its Trustee Board. He joins a Trustee Board comprising two other lay trustees and five elected professional representatives of the Society’s membership.   

Darren has a background in the pharmaceutical industry. He currently works for a start-up and has previously worked with the Society while MD of Sintetica (a Swiss-based company that specialises in anaesthetics and analgesics). 

Announcing the appointment President of the Society, Steve Mathieu said: 

“We are delighted to welcome Darren to our Trustee Board. The Board is central to the good governance of the Society and his broad experience will make him a valuable addition to the effective development and management of the largest multi-professional intensive care membership organisation in the UK. 

Sandy Mather, Chief Executive of the Society added: 

“Our Trustee Board is vital in providing us with constructive challenge. Darren brings thinking from outside the intensive care environment which will help guide the future development of our approach for the benefit of our members, patients and their families. 

Darren Fergus said: 

“I’ve been incredibly passionate about the multiprofessional work of the Intensive Care Society for many years. Having an opportunity to contribute to this work, bring an industry perspective, and help wherever I can is an honour and a privilege. In my everyday work I’m heavily involved in strategy and fundraising, two areas where I’m keen to contribute to the Intensive Care Society as a Lay Trustee.” 

Darren Fergus – Biographical details  

Darren has a background in the pharmaceutical industry. He currently works for a start-up and previously worked with the Society as former MD of Sintetica (a Swiss-based company that specialises in anaesthetics and analgesics) to sponsor SOA in 2019 and 2020. Darren has a passion for leadership and development and is interested in helping the Society to diversify its income streams. Darren's career highlights include CEO and co-founder of Profionics with Cardiff University and NLC; setting up Europe’s first cryoneurolysis service to treat pain associated with spasticity; and working in partnership with B Braun Medical, RA UK and RCoA to help improve access for patients waiting for day case surgery.
