I graduated from Queens university Belfast in 1995, travelling to Australia after JHO year working as RMO in Queensland. On my return to NI I worked as an SHO in medicine/ ED and ICU, before taking a post as a staff grade in HDU/ICU in 2001. I successfully regraded to Associate Specialist in 2008, after achieving MRCP in 2007.
I have a special interest in tracheostomies and chair the weekly RVH trache MDT. I also have an interest in complex ventilator weans, and in humanising ICU.
I have recently completed my second term as chair of BMA NI SAS committee and during my time as chair saw the introduction of SAS leads in each trust, followed by an Associate SAS dean at NIMDTA and more recently the appointment of SAS Advocates in each trust in NI.
I am an advocate of the #SASbychoice campaign, and am passionate about ensuring all SAS doctors are given every opportunity to develop to their full potential.
