Tom Lunn

Tom is a Team Lead Physiotherapist for Critical Care at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, where he leads physiotherapy services across a 55-bed adult intensive care unit, including the regional Severe Acute Respiratory Failure and ECMO service. He previously worked at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust before returning to Bristol. 

Tom has a specialist clinical interest in the management of patients with severe respiratory failure, with particular expertise in ECMO, respiratory physiotherapy, and advanced respiratory assessment techniques, including lung ultrasound and electrical impedance tomography. His research focuses on airway clearance in adult patients receiving ECMO and includes national collaborative work through the UK ECMO Physiotherapy Network. 

Alongside his clinical role, Tom is actively involved in research, quality improvement and education. He teaches on postgraduate critical care programmes and delivers national and international education on critical care physiotherapy and ECMO. He is committed to advancing the evidence base for physiotherapy in critical care and contributing to the development and representation of physiotherapy within multidisciplinary critical care practice.
