Call for case reviewers - NCEPOD study on Rehabilitation following critical illness

NCEPOD is undertaking a study to evaluate the rehabilitation provided to critically ill adults within intensive care units, as well as throughout the recovery pathway to encompass both ward based and community care.

The project aims to identify remediable factors in the quality of care received by patients and produce a national report with recommendations to improve the quality of care.

For the case note reviewers, a multi-disciplinary group of healthcare professionals is being sought with a working interest in the care of critically ill adults within intensive care units as well as their recovery pathway to encompass both ward based and community care.

NCEPOD is seeking senior clinicians from a wide variety of specialties, including (and not limited to)

  • ICU consultants
  • speech and language therapists
  • occupational therapists
  • dietitians
  • physiotherapists
  • ICU nursing staff and general nurses
  • rehabilitation consultants
  • general surgical and medical consultants.

The aim is to recruit senior clinicians (grade ST6 and above) to ensure that applicants have enough experience for the case note review and all applicants should be in current clinical practice.

Case reviewers will be asked to attend meetings during which they will assess case note extracts and questionnaires and provide expert opinions on the quality of healthcare received by critically ill adults within intensive care units.

The training day will be held in February - the date is yet to be confirmed, and if you are unable to make this date, training on an ad hoc basis is possible.

You would typically be required to attend/join a minimum of 4 subsequent case reviewer meetings at the NCEPOD offices in London.

It is anticipated that case review meetings will begin in March and will run for approximately 6 months and the data collected during these meetings will form a major part of the study’s final report.
