Infection in Intensive Care Working Group

We are looking for representatives to join the newly established Infection in Intensive Care Working Group, a collaboration between the British Infection Association (BIA) and the Intensive Care Society.

The initial scope of work is to develop mutually beneficial guidelines and the first agreed project is developing Guidance for microbiology services in critical care.

Membership of the group is being drawn from both Societies reflecting the diversity of professionals involved in infection management in ICU and we welcome anyone with an interest in microbiology.  

The group will be co-chaired by representatives from the BIA and Society and terms will last three years.  

The co-chairs will be supported by a committee made up of representatives covering microbiology, virology, mycology, infectious diseases, pharmacy, infection prevention and control, intensive care and trainees.   

The working group will report to the councils of the Society and Association and expects to meet on a quarterly basis. 

We’re looking for at least one nurse, one AHP and one pharmacist to join the group.

Eligibility

  • Open to members of the Intensive Care Society 
  • Currently working in intensive care  
  • Interest and involvement in Infection Prevention, Management and Treatment

Role

  • Contribute to the writing and review of draft consensus guidance 
  • Attend working group meetings to progress work and provide feedback via email/MS teams  
  • Adhere to the Society’s values - Accept and respect, Freedom of expression, Collaboration, Quality. 
  • Support the development of learning and educational resources (TBD)
