Call for Applications: Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Intensive Care Society (JICS)

The Journal of the Intensive Care Society (JICS) is the official journal of the UK Intensive Care Society.

The Society is accepting Editor-in-Chief applications for the role which is expected to commence December 2025.

JICS is a UK-based, peer-reviewed journal published four times a year in February, May, August and November, and online ahead of publication on the journal’s website. The journal seeks to engage a broad range of clinicians, scholars and community leaders in an ongoing exchange of information through scholarly articles, including original research, brief research reports, literature reviews, quality improvement reports, evidenced-based innovations in clinical practice or policy, and letters to the editor.

The journal is indexed in CINAHL, Clarivate Analytics: Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), EMBASE/Excerpta Medica, ProQuest, Prous Science Integrity®, PubMed Central (PMC), SafetyLit, Scopus.

The Journal has an impact factor of 1.4.

Overview of the role of the Editor-in-Chief (EiC)

The EiC will have a clear vision of appropriate journal content based on the Intensive Care Society’s charitable purpose and mission and strategy, the needs and interests of readers, the most promising areas of research in the field, and the extent to which the journal should try to attract and publish this research.

The EiC will work with the publisher, Sage Journals, to ensure high quality peer review and timely and accurate delivery of manuscripts for publication. The EiC will be responsible for soliciting, reviewing, and making final decisions on submissions to the journal, and will manage all aspects of the publication and review process using the ScholarOne submission and review platform.

The EiC is expected to maintain timely and effective communication, advance journal performance, and uphold the Society’s values. The Editor works with an editorial board and selects a cadre of manuscript reviewers in association with the editorial board.

The JICS Editor-in-Chief is an independent contractor, and reports to the Society’s Chief Executive Officer on behalf of Trustee Board and Council. The EiC is also a Special Advisor to Council which meets 4 times a year.

The EiC role is remunerated, and the Society provides support for the Editor to attend its annual congress, State of the Art.
