We are excited to appoint three Lay Trustees
The Intensive Care Society is excited to announce the appointment of three new Lay Trustees to join our board. We will officially welcome Sarah Anderson, Martin Cresswell and Stephen Posey at our Annual Members Meeting, held at our State of the Art Conference on Tuesday 10 December, 2019 in Birmingham.
Sarah Anderson is a chartered accountant with over 20 years’ experience advising a wide range of charities in accounting and governance matters. Currently working as a Director for Deloitte LLP in Leeds, she is responsible for a national portfolio of charitable organisations. Sarah also volunteers at the adult critical care units at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust with her therapy dog Maggie, as part of the Pets as Therapy initiative to which the Society is a huge advocate.
Sarah said "It is a privilege to join the Society. I am passionate about patient experience and rehabilitation in intensive care and I look forward to helping the Society be the best it can be in advancing the care of critically ill patients."
Martin Cresswell brings a wealth of experience in communications, public relations and journalism. His work in healthcare began when he joined the Board of the former South Essex Health Authority as Director of Communications, later becoming an independent consultant, working with NHS hospitals and trust across London, Southeast and Northeast
Martin said “I am thrilled to be joining the ICS at this important and exciting time and believe the wide experience I have gained across the many and varied parts of the health service will enable me to make a positive contribution to the development of the Society.”
Stephen Posey is Chief Executive of Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, and brings over 20 years’ experience in the health service, spanning commissioner, provider and strategic roles.
Stephen said “I’m delighted to be joining the Intensive Care Society as a Lay Trustee. It’s a very exciting time for the Society as it looks ahead to celebrating its 50th anniversary next year and continuing the valuable work it carries out within the profession of critical care.”
It is an exciting time for the Society and Royal Papworth as we not only welcome Stephen Posey as a Lay Trustee, we will also see Consultant in Critical Care and Anaesthesia and former Chair of the ICS Standards Division, Dr Stephen Webb, become the next President-Elect of the Society.
As we begin the countdown to the Society entering its 50th year in 2020, it couldn’t be a better time to welcome our new Trustees and involve them in our celebrations.
ICS President, Dr Ganesh Suntharalingam, and Chief Executive, Dr Sandy Mather, said “We are delighted to welcome Sarah, Martin and Stephen in to our Intensive Care Society family, each bringing with them their unique expertise that will benefit the Society and help us grow over the next couple of years.”
