Join us for a session on critical care updates in Cardiac medicine.
Join us on Tuesday 24th November for a comprehensive, interactive study day exploring the latest updates and advances in the management of cardiac patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This one-day event will feature expert-led sessions, case-based learning, and live Q&A opportunities designed to support the ongoing professional development of ICU healthcare teams.
This course is designed for healthcare professionals working in or alongside Intensive Care Units, including doctors, nurses, physiologists, and allied health professionals.
I. Core Clinical Knowledge
• Recognise and manage common cardiac ICU presentations, including:
• Acute coronary syndromes (STEMI/NSTEMI)
• Cardiogenic shock
• Arrhythmias (e.g., AF, VT, bradyarrhythmias)
• Heart failure and acute decompensations
• Review the hemodynamic principles underlying cardiac function and perfusion.
• Interpret and integrate invasive monitoring data
II. Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS)
• Understand indications, function, and ICU management of:
• Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
• Impella
• VA/ECMO (veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation)
III. Acute Management Principles
• Apply protocols and evidence-based approaches to:
• Cardiogenic shock management
• Arrhythmia management (rate vs rhythm control)
• Low cardiac output syndrome recognition and treatment
IV. Interdisciplinary Teamwork
• Clarify roles and collaboration among the cardiac ICU team, including intensivists, cardiologists, surgeons, nurses, perfusionists, and pharmacists.
V. Evidence-Based & Ethical Practice
• Integrate current guidelines and emerging evidence into clinical decision-making.
• Explore ethical considerations around care escalation and end-of-life decisions in critically ill cardiac patientsTime | Title of Talk | Speaker |
