FUSIC® HD Summative Assessment May 2026

Prerequisites to undertaking the assessment:

Candidates must have completed FUSIC® Heart or BSE Level 1 or FEEL AND FUSIC® Lung or FAMUS Thoracic prior to embarking upon FUSIC® HD. Candidates must either have completed the FUSIC® HD e-Learning modules, or should have attended a face-to-face course (sending a copy of the course certificate as evidence to the learning team at [email protected]).

Candidates must have performed and logged the required number of scans and a registered FUSIC® HD Trainer must have signed-off the logbook and competency assessment and summary of training record forms.

The Candidate FUSIC® HD Logbook (including evidence of all individual case entries) must be submitted via the FUSIC® portal prior to being officially accepted onto the assessment day. Failure to do so will result in the inability to complete the accreditation.

Updates to the FUSIC® HD Curriculum

The new FUSIC® HD curriculum comes into effect as of Sunday 1st February 2026. Logbooks will be expected to be completed on the new reporting form with the new additional measurements from this date. Candidates already undertaking FUSIC® HD accreditation are not expected to restart their logbooks. Scans performed prior to this date will still be accepted without these new measurements. This phased approach ensures fairness while allowing time for adaptation to the updated dataset. Examinations from 2026 onwards will include these new competencies.

Please refer to the the FUSIC® HD Complete GuideUpdates Document, and Reporting Form for full details.

Reasonable adjustments:

The Intensive Care Society is committed to ensuring that reasonable adjustments are made for those who require such support. It is therefore essential that this information is declared when registering for the assessment day. Please ensure that you communicate with the learning team on [email protected] to advise them of your needs.

Assessment components:

There are three parts of the assessment:

  • a logbook check (must be submitted ahead of the day).
  • a video pathology case assessment (MCQ Format).
  • a practical assessment (hands-on scanning).

Note: As mentioned above, the complete logbook and competency documents must be submitted ahead of the assessment. This is marked against the criteria in your module training handbook. The logbook should consist of: -

  • 50 case reporting forms (one for each scan), reflecting the breadth of pathology from the 10 FUSIC® HD clinical questions.
  • 20/50 must be supervised scans.
  • No more than 10/50 can be normal scans.
  • No patient identifiable data present.

Further information, including specific joining instructions will be sent out to candidates following registration
