Statement on College of Intensive Care Medicine

The Intensive Care Society congratulates the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) on their announcement that they will transition to become the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) in July 2026.

As the world's oldest specialist intensive care society and long-standing partners in advancing critical care, we warmly welcome efforts to strengthen the specialty.

We recognise the important role that a dedicated College can play in driving support for the workforce, and improving outcomes for patients and their families. 

As the UKs largest multi professional intensive care membership organisation the Society remains a supportive community for dialogue and collaboration, and looks forward to contributing to a smooth and positive transition for our members and the wider critical care community.
