London Marathon – World Recording Breaking Doctor
Dr Chris Mason, an Intensive care specialist at St Bart’s Hospital, London, is embarking on a world recorded breaking challenge to be the fastest person to run the London Marathon dressed as an Intensive Care doctor – complete with tracheostomy. He will be running on the 22nd of April 2018 and aims to beat the current record of 2hrs 53 minutes.
He says “Two of my favourite things are working on intensive care and running marathons.”
Dr Chris Mason wants to raise awareness of Intensive Care and what some of the sickest patients in hospital go through in critical care. He is raising money for the Intensive Care Foundation who have pioneered critical care research for over ten years by providing funding, grants and support. The ICF currently coordinate 70% of Critical Care Research, are involved with over 20 active studies and have awarded £200,000 in research grants over the last 2 years. Dr Chris Mason has raised £344 so far for the Foundation through his Virgin Money Giving page and hopes to raise £500 through his efforts.
He has previously run ‘The Big Half’ 13 mile London Marathon dressed as an Intensive Care Doctor. He broke the record then achieving a time of 1hr 18 minutes. He is hoping to make the Guinness World Record book on the 22nd of April.
