Dr Victoria Metaxa is a full-time Critical Care and Major Trauma Consultant, at King’s College Hospital in London. She is a King's College London Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, and has a PhD in neurosciences and an MA in Medical Ethics and Palliative Care from Keele University. Her clinical interests include bioethics, end-of-life care, critical care outreach and the management of patients with haematological malignancies. Dr Metaxa is a member of the European Society of Intensive Care (ESICM) Ethics section, and the representative of the section in the e-learning committee. Katerina Rusinova, MD, Ph.D. is a leading expert in palliative medicine and Head of the Department of Palliative Medicine at the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and the General University Hospital in Prague. Originally trained in anesthesiology and intensive care, she transitioned to palliative care after international experience in France and the USA. She co-founded the first academic palliative care department in the Czech Republic in 2021 and has contributed to major international research projects. A former Intensive Care Medicine editor, she also founded Paliativní medicína. With a background in acting, she integrates empathy into medicine and advocates for values-based patient care.
