The new Intensive Care Society Guidelines on the Transfer of the Critically Ill Patient 2025 push the boundaries of previous standards as well as establish new expectations for all transfers regardless of destination, location or team undertaking them. This session explores the continued development of ACCTS, examines the challenges faced by us all in meeting the transfer needs of our patients and explores some of the contemporary issues and controversies that have been highlighted by a new-found focus on critical care transfer.

Clinical Director, Adult Critical Care Co-ordination & Transfer Service (ACCOTS)
Richard led the establishment of and is the Clinical Director for the Adult Critical Care Co-ordination & Transfer Service (ACCOTS), which is the commissioned Adult Critical Care Transfer Service in the Midlands and has co-led the development of Adult Critical Care Transfer Services for NHS England over the past 5 years. He is also a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and Clinical Service Lead for the department, having trained in Intensive Care Medicine & Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine. In addition, he is the Joint Medical lead for the West Midlands Critical Care Network and a Consultant member of the FICM ACCP Sub-committee.
