In this session, we explore the different kinds of misconduct in the workplace, with emphasis on issues in collegiate relationships and where people cross the line, including sexual misconduct. We’ll hear from NHS staff who have been through these experiences and how they came through the other side, including the Surviving in Scrubs Campaign. You will learn the research and theory around why this occurs, and the legalities and due process of what to do. A safe session will be created so that people can share stories, and space for debriefing with the presenters will be made available afterwards.

Dr Julie Highfield is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist & Lead for Organisational Health in Adult and Paediatric Critical Care, Cardiff. She is the National Project Director for Wellbeing in the Intensive Care Society. She has a long experience of working as a psychologist in medical and health care settings and works closely with staff in their experience of working in healthcare, as well as advising managers on matters of workforce wellbeing. Julie has worked with the British Psychological Society and its Division of Clinical Psychology in Wales. She led the BPS team writing the National Guidance for Staff in the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Julie works with the Welsh Assembly Government in various projects, including as the lead for Critical Care Workforce Task and Finish Group, and Modelling for Rehabilitation for patients post COVID-19, and the Wellbeing Conversation Tool. She has a number of publications and book chapters in the field of critical care, staff wellbeing, and leadership.
Dr Bakare is currently an Advanced Trainee in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia in Northwest London. She graduated with Honours from the University of Bristol and commenced her career in the West Country before pursuing Specialty Training in Northwest London. As an elected member of the Trainee Advisory Group of the Intensive Care Society and leverages her expertise to contribute actively to the society's Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Working Group. She also holds the additional responsibility of serving as the EDI lead on the Editorial Board for GPCISv3.
Dr Bakare is deeply passionate about advancing Equity in Healthcare and Medical Education, with clinical interests spanning Major General Surgery and Transfer Medicine.
Simon spent thirty years in law enforcement, the majority of which was as a senior leader. He has always had an interest in protecting vulnerable people and for several years held the portfolio for Violence Against Woman and Girls. In policing he developed organisational software to identify and respond to vulnerability within an operational context. Simon has a particular interest in domestic violence; a subject he has lectured on both here and abroad. Since leaving policing he has held strategic roles in Education and the Church of England in which he helped develop organisational responses to the wider safeguarding agenda. As a career investigator Simon has undertaken investigations in numerous settings in a variety of public and private organisations, often in the most challenging and complex of circumstances. He has worked in several NHS organisations and most recently has helped Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust develop their restorative approach to disciplinary cases and help provide clarity to their response to the NHSE Sexual Safety Charter. In addition, he has worked with the Trust to create an on-line reporting process for reporting poor behaviour which ensures local ownership and a proportionate response to risk.
