Outline of proposed content:
ORACLE Education will lead a case-based session focusing on two key critical care presentations, and how to integrate both departmental and bedside imaging into elevating patient management more widely.
The first case will drill down into the detail and specifics of managing cardiac tamponade, featuring input from a Cardiologist with a special interest in imaging..
Our second case will focus on pulmonary embolism – looking at the key CT, echo and physiological markers which help in guiding therapies.
Learning objectives
- Develop an appreciate of how multi-modal imaging can be integrated into care of the critically unwell patient.
- To understand the echocardiography findings consistent with tamponade physiology
- To develop a practical framework for bedside pericardiocentesis for the intensivist
- To appreciate the CT findings consistent with a haemodynamically significant pulmonary embolism
- To learn how bedside echocardiography can help guide therapies to support a failing right ventricle
