The Airway and Bronchoscopy Pre-Congress Workshop has been devised specifically for a wide range of clinicians, from trainees embarking on their first rotation of managing 30 beds, to experienced clinicians keen to refresh their knowledge of the latest airways practices and bronchoscopy skills. The course has been tailored to critical care practice and we are delighted to be running it in collaboration with the Difficult Airway Society (DAS).
The day will start with short lectures covering important theoretical/anatomical knowledge. This is followed by hands-on skills development and training. There will be 8 airways stations run by experienced faculty from DAS and critical care to demonstrate the very latest equipment and practices including video laryngoscopy, Supraglottic airway devices, Video-laryngoscopy assisted Fibreoptic intubation (VAFI), airway ultrasound, front of neck access, and tracheostomy. There will also be simulated bronchoscopy training relevant to critical care. Each small group of delegates will rotate between all stations to gain experience and practice their skills under guided supervision.

This is a workshop to explore how, as a leader, you can manage difficult conversations and how to get the best out of the people you work with. We will include understanding human motivation and emotion, and how personality manifests in busy intensive care environments. We’ll discuss the concept of reciprocity in leadership and help you to understand your responses to your team. We’ll talk through typical case examples of a range of difficult conversations, and tackle ways of managing this.
