The Intensive Care Society has a very active trainee committee and here they introduce themselves….

Elected Members

Fiona Wallace
Fiona is in her final year of training in intensive care medicine and anaesthesia in the North Western deanery.  She was elected in 2014 and became chair in December 2016.  She is involved in organising State of the Art and has led organisation of the trainee and career day.  Her interests include workforce sustainability, medical education and Learning from Excellence.

Jamie Strachan
Jamie is a speciality trainee in ICM and anaesthesia in Oxford. He was elected to the trainee committee in 2014 and is the chair-elect so sits on council with Fiona. He has professional interests in technology and its application to healthcare and learning – he is currently taking OOPE at the Royal College of Anaesthetists working on a technology strategy programme.

Peter Bamford
Pete is an ST8 in ICM and Anaesthesia in the Mersey, North West Deanery. He was elected to the trainee committee with Jamie and Fiona in December 2014, and currently sits on the ICS/FICM Joint Standards Committee. Outside of his clinical commitments his professional interests include quality improvement, patient safety and medical education.

Laura Vincent
Laura is a Joint ICM/Anaesthesia trainee in Oxford, currently undertaking an ICM/Simulation fellowship. She joined the trainee committee in 2015 and sits on the Events, Training and Meetings sub-committee and the Burnout and Wellbeing working group. Her main interests are in post-graduate education (professionalism, human factors and MDT simulation) and maternal critical care.

Akshay Shah
Akshay is a NIHR ACF and ST4 in Anaesthesia and ICM in Oxford. He joined the ICS trainee committee in December 2015 and is their representative on the ICS Research sub-committee. Professional interests include research into perioperative and critical care transfusion, pre-operative assessment and post-ICU outcomes.

Andrew Martin
Andrew is an ST7 ICM and Anaesthesia trainee in Manchester. He was elected on to the trainee committee in December 2016. His main interests include research within ICM, peri-operative medicine and ultrasound use.

Co-opted members

Olusegun Olusanya
Segun is a clinical Fellow in ICU in Basingstoke. Co-opted to trainee council in 2013, he is one of the Digital Editors of JICS.  He also helps organise the State of the Art meeting, and has interests in social media and Ultrasound.

Victoria McCormack
As part of our close links with other specialist societies and associations, Victoria sits on our committee in order to represent the group of anaesthetists in training (GAT) – the trainee arm of the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI).  A proud Scot living in England, Victoria started anaesthesia training in 2005, and has been less than full time since 2010. Her interests are social media, medical politics FOAMed, safety and wellbeing projects – she is keen to show trainees coming through that a family and ICM can mix!

Jamie Plumb 
Jamie is a trainee in ICM and is elected as FICM representative by members of the faculty. There is also a trainee-rep elect (Richard Gould). The faculty of intensive care medicine is a professional body responsible for the training, assessment, practice and continuing professional development of Intensive Care Medicine doctors and practitioners in the UK.  They are co-opted onto our committee.
